“How are you” a leader asked. “Exhausted,” I replied honestly.
“Yeah, me too,” he admitted, and then went on to remind me to imagine how exhausted his boss, and his boss’ boss are.
*Clunk*
Here’s the thing- it’s not a competition.
There’s no grand prize for being the most exhausted, most stressed out, the most overcommitted. No balloons are falling, no bells are ringing, there’s just more. More work, more deadlines, more, more, more.
On a daily basis I hear keeners using action words like strategy, outreach, determination, focus, payback, etc. Competition ramps, “yes men” quadruple, and the work culture suffers.
Without a healthy work culture, strategy fails.
Culture will eat strategy for breakfast.
My takeaway?
There’s no calvary coming, you’re it. I do my work quietly, efficiently, and plant my 7 daily seeds:
- Water
- Movement
- Music
- Prayer
- Quiet
- Dream/playtime
- Sleep
I guard all the above like I’m the third monkey on the ramp!
Plus — summertime means a fresh garden tomato sammich so juicy it runs down your arm!
